Found this in a recipe book: "Recipes from the Heart of the Mother Lode" A collection of recipes from the local community in Sonora, CA, benefiting CNVC, Center for a Non Violent Community.
'Elephant Stew 1 elephant Salt and pepper Brown gravy 2 rabbits (opt)
Cut elephant into bite-size pieces. This should take about 2 months. Salt and pepper to taste. Cover with brown gravy and cook over kerosene fire for about 4 weeks at 465°. Serves: 3,800 people. Note: If more people are expected, 2 rabbits may be added, but do this only if necessary, as most people do not like to find hare in their stew.'
